Shoreham Port has taken delivery of a new crane thanks to asset financing.

The lending deal has enabled the south coast port to buy a fifth heavy-duty lifter, with it choosing to purchase a Sennebogen 880 Classic from E.H. Hassell and Sons, which is based in Stoke-on-Trent.

Alan Motterham, who is the commercial operations director for the port, thanked various parties for their help in the crane deal, stating:

“The delivery of the crane will enable our team to perform safe and efficient loading and discharging of cargo, ensuring that our customers have a quick turnaround time at Shoreham.”

The port has been running at full capacity for some time and needed the new high-spec equipment to allow the facility to expand further. It will make the unloading of heavy cargos such as biomass, steel and timber easier for its workers. The new 880 Classic has a lifting capacity of 35.8 tons, with it joining four other Sennebogen cranes at the docks.

The East Sussex port is described as being at the centre of the region’s economy, so increasing its capacity is important for the area. Innovative equipment finance deals like this one are used across the UK to provide capital for big expansion projects. However, asset financing can be used by any type or size of organisation.
